Street League is the UK’s leading Sport for Employment charity. We believe that sport is the most powerful tool for helping young people get jobs or go back into education and training and we intend to add more sports to our portfolio as time goes on to reach as wide a range of young people as possible. We are absolutely committed to helping as many young people as we can until we see an end to youth unemployment in the UK. At Street League you play sport every day and learn the key skills to move into work. We believe in the power of sport to enable people to achieve their full potential; sport is a universal language
Street League operates in 14 regions across the UK with our sport for employment programmes running in 36 local communities. Our 10-12 week long programmes support unemployed 16-24 year olds to learn the key skills, gain the necessary qualifications and work experience to move into a sustainable job or further training.
From April-15 to Mar-16 we supported 1,281 young people into work, training or education.
In Scotland we have 3 Employability Fund offers;
EF Stage 2 Academy which runs for 10 weeks and includes one to one action planning, group work activities, achievement of SQA Personal Development award, work exposure arranged by our Progressions Co-ordinator, sporting activity with our Youth and Community Coach/Fitness instructor and input from relevant partner organisations.
EF Stage 3 Academy which runs for 12 weeks and includes one to one action planning, group work activities, achievement of SQA Employability Award, person centred work placement, sporting activity with our Youth and Community Coach/Fitness instructor and delivery of a community event by our participants.
Certificate of Work Readiness Academy runs for 12 weeks and includes an employer or sector specific work placement, sporting activity with our Youth and Community Coach/Fitness instructor. Group activities are adapted specifically to the needs and requirements of the employer in order to prepare our participants for the environment they will be working in.
All participants are supported consistently by their Youth and Community Coach/Fitness instructor and Progressions Co-ordinator. We also offer a wraparound service in the form of our Senior Progressions Co-ordinators who offer an aftercare service to our participants who require extra support or haven’t moved on after our Academy duration.
“I have listened to young people talk about how Street League has helped them get their lives back on track. It’s inspiring stuff, and I would encourage any young person looking for work to get in contact with Street League.”
