About the Organisation
The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) is an active citizenship programme that raises awareness amongst young people about philanthropy and their local community. Each participating school, each year is responsible for directing a £3000 YPI Grant to a local charity through a unique programme of teamwork, research and competition. YPI Scotland is all about creativity and passion, leaving the four walls of the classroom behind, and supporting the issues young people care most about.
YPI is now an international programme and, in the 2017/18 academic year, will be delivered in direct partnership with 230 secondary schools across Scotland. To date, YPI Scotland has engaged over 140,000 students, providing them with the essential skills and confidence to grant nearly £3million to thousands of local charities. The programme is principally funded and managed in Scotland by The Wood Foundation.
YPI Scotland is delivered throughout the whole of Scotland and is provided on a fully resourced and fully supported basis. Each participating school must deliver YPI across a full participating year group of students, and the programme must be delivered as core curricular activity; although there is great flexibility with respects delivery subject area(s) and participating year group.
YPI is the principal education programme of The Wood Foundation, who in turn manage a team of 12 regional officers who provide planning support and guidance to all participating schools. Each year all YPI schools submit a Participating School Agreement (PSA) to The Wood Foundation which acts as the agreement upon which YPI is delivered as a partnership between The Wood Foundation and each participating school.
