About the Organisation
The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) is an active citizenship programme that empowers young people to make a difference in their local communities.
Each participating school, each year is responsible for directing a £3000 YPI grant to a social issue, grassroots charity through a unique programme of teamwork, research and competition.
YPI is delivered in more than 250 secondary schools across each of Scotland’s 32 local authorities. By the end of the 2018/19 academic year, 175,000 young people will have been engaged, channeling grants of £4m to thousands of local charities. The programme is principally funded and managed in Scotland by The Wood Foundation.
YPI is fully-resourced and supported.
It is delivered across an entire year group as core curricular activity. There is flexibility in terms of delivery subject area(s) and participating year group.
YPI is the flagship programme of The Wood Foundation in the UK. There is a team of 12 regional facilitators who provide planning support and guidance to all participating schools.
Each year all YPI schools submit a Participating School Agreement (PSA) to The Wood Foundation which acts as the agreement upon which YPI is delivered as a partnership between The Wood Foundation and each participating school.
